Community Spotlight: McGMO Charity Golf Event

Giving back to our community is an important part of what we do at Beacon. We take pride in sponsoring events and supporting organizations that align with our business goals and the needs of our consultants and clients. One local organization that Beacon has proudly sponsored for the last 20+ years is the McGMO annual charity golf event.

The McGMO was established in 1998 by Tim McGregor, Mike Grover, John Monroe, and Kim O‘Keefe, all of whom had been touched by cancer in a direct way. Tim, Mike, and John lost their fathers (Dean McGregor, Ivan Grover, and Calvin Monroe) to cancer within a six-month period, and Kim was battling cancer himself. Friends since high school in Delavan, Wisconsin, they did more than turn to each other for support. They decided to raise money to help others fighting cancer. The first year, $9,000 was raised toward the purchase of blanket warmers. Donations have grown each year and now total more than $1 million to date.

Every year, the McGMO hosts a fun golf outing to raise money for the comfort and care of those fighting cancer. The goal is to raise the bar every year and increase the proceeds of the outing so that even more cancer patients will benefit from the generosity of those who attend. It’s important to be able to stay close to home while receiving care during such a trying time in someone’s life.

This year, the 25th annual McGMO Charity Golf Event will be held at the beautiful Delbrook Golf Course in Delavan, WI on Friday July 28, 2023. Proceeds of the event support the patients at Aurora Cancer Care in Walworth and western Racine counties.
