Ideas for Your Professional New Year’s Resolution List

“New Year, New Me!” …It is a cheesy thing to say, sure, but not too far from it becoming a reality. With the new year creeping around the corner, it is about time you start drafting your New Year’s Resolution List (but with a twist). Instead, we suggest you focus on ideas related to your professionalism! It is never too late to start changing up bad habits and trading them in for a much more proactive lifestyle. Here are just a couple of ideas to help you become a better and more motivated version of yourself when it comes to your career.

Learn A New Skill

Has there been a skill you have been always dying to learn, but you just never got around to it? Now is the time to start. A fresh “new you,” calls for fresh new skills—skills that can help you grow and become more knowledgeable. Who knew learning could be so much fun when it is related to something that inspires you?

Grow Your Connections

Get out there on social media and connect with as many new people as you can. LinkedIn is perfect for this, so start there until you can find other useful websites that work just as well. Alternatives to LinkedIn include Facebook group pages. Facebook group pages are extremely helpful if you have a niche you prefer and only wish to grow in that department for connections. New connections bring new ideas and new opportunities.

Give Your Resume a Makeover

If you have not updated your resume in a while and it is due for a change, you might want to get straight to it! Review your current resume and apply any changes as necessary where some information is not included, such as new skills or responsibilities that you are now doing that you are proud of. Not only see if there are any additions to be made, but check to see what can be taken out. Your old experience as being a “Babysitter” might not be so relevant anymore now that you are a grown professional!

Find Your Routine

If a routine is not your cup of tea, it does not hurt to give it a try. Sticking to a daily routine helps keep you motivated and focused, so you are not wasting the day away staring at your phone. For example, have a routine of waking up at a certain time and then complete a short exercise before work hour starts! The downside is that following a routine can sometimes get old and bore you, in that case change things up a bit so that way there is room for change and excitement so it’s not the same pattern every day.

Do Things That Scare You

This advice applies to any resolution. What is something that scares you? Work related of course. Is it asking for a promotion? Seeking another work opportunity? Asking your boss if you can take on a responsibility that you really want to do, but never got asked to? This could be endless, but something personal for you. This “scary” thing that you have been wanting to do for your career is BOLD, but without taking action you will never know the other path that could have been opened for you.

We are all in this together, facing this new year. Stepping into 2021 sounds terrifying enough, but let us not forget it will be a year of excitement and pave ways for you to grow. By taking the first few steps of becoming a better version of yourself, you are already on the path to success.
