Job Summary

Beacon Technologies is seeking an experienced contract IT/Technology Senior Project Manager (PM) to manage a complex, large-scale, high-dollar, multi-year software project migrating from our current on-premises integrations architecture/platform to a new and different cloud-based integration platform as a service. The migration work will include redesigning, standardizing, and rewriting ~140 existing integrations. The project’s very nature brings with it layers of technical complexity. This project has impacts on many other IT software applications/systems and will require a PM who can successfully identify, plan and drive work across multiple IT teams (and systems) – including teams who may be resistant to the change or lack resource availability to support the project. This accountable, driven, and critical problem solver must have a proven track record successfully managing software implementation or conversion projects from start to finish using the waterfall SDLC methodology. They also need experience managing vendors, system implementors, consulting partners and their assigned resources to drive the work. While experience managing system integration projects could be beneficial it is not required. In fact, we prefer to focus on securing a strong, well-rounded Technology PM who has a robust set of experiences managing complex, large-scale, high-dollar, multi-year Technology/IT software implementation/upgrade projects using waterfall SDLC from start to finish. A background in IT beyond project management is highly preferred, as this role requires both technical fluency and strategic insight. In addition to leading project execution, the PM should be eager to understand the business and technical functions that underpin the projects they manage. We believe successful project management is more than task execution—it’s about turning vision into reality. This means rolling up your sleeves to build and lead plans, proactively manage risks, and resolve issues as they arise. The PM will play a key role in ensuring project success by navigating risks and issues to drive successful outcomes.

Summary of Required Project Management Experience & Skills:

  • Successfully managed complex, large-scale, high-dollar, multi-year Technology/IT software implementation projects from start to finish.
  • Strong history of managing software projects using the waterfall SDLC methodology.
  • Ability to identify, plan and drive work across multiple IT teams and systems.
  • Ability to navigate technical complexities, setbacks and delays.
  • Experience managing system integration projects could be beneficial but is not required. Securing a good, qualified candidate is more important that a PM with integration project experience.
  • Minimum of 5-years of IT software Project Management experience required.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required.
  • Use of Microsoft Project.

Position Details:

  • Location: 100% remote (option)
  • Hours: Must work Central Time Zone hours (8 AM – 5 PM)
  • Residency: Residing in Iowa or Wisconsin is a bonus but not required. Securing a good, qualified candidate is more important that residing in IA or WI.

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the successful initiation, planning, development, administration, risk management, implementation, control, and closure of large-sized projects across multiple business units through the Program and Project Management department.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Understands and utilizes the project management methodologies and processes (based on PMI Standards) for project delivery in order to achieve scope, schedule and cost objectives while effectively managing risks that have the potential to affect project deliverables. May also provide support for maintenance and improvement of PMO tools, templates, and processes.
  • Determines specific business needs and deliverables of a project, and, utilizing project management tools, establishes and manages the costs, resources, performance measurements, timeline, and project deliverables required to complete the project and meet the expected project outcome. May be responsible for performing a cost/benefit analysis of the project and ensuring feasibility.
  • Determines appropriate project resource and staffing skillsets, including determining the level of expertise needed to complete a project while assessing strategies that can be made to reduce the overall project risk factor.
  • Manages applicable project contracts in conjunction with sourcing personnel. Prepares Requests for Proposals (RFPs), evaluates responses, participates in negotiations, interprets contract language, and handles finances. Ensures that the work is completed to specifications and is on schedule as specified in the contract.
  • Responsible for development and execution of communication and stakeholder management plans related to projects, including the development and reporting of project status, risks and progress to stakeholders in an agreed to format, frequency, material content, and audience of the communications.
  • Ensures training needs are met for project team members and users of project.
  • Upon completion of projects, ensures operational teams are properly trained, work orders pertaining to the project are closed, all related finance charges are handled, team members are reassigned, documentation is in order, and a smooth transition of deliverables occurs.
  • Understands and utilizes organizational change management methodology within the context of project management.
  • Provides support to and mentors other in the use of organizational change management methodology and business consulting support as needed within the context of program and project management to aid in assurance of achievement of strategic objectives.

Supervision
Performs work under the direct supervision of a manager or director.

QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Requirements

  • Education Level Field of Study Required/Preferred Bachelor's Degree Preferred.
  • Certification Project Management Professional (PMP) certification Required.

Required Experience

  • 5 years of experience in project management managing medium to large sized, complex projects

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to analyze and solve problems of a moderate nature and implement an effective solution.
  • Ability to organize medium to large project plans and effectively document accordingly.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and carry out responsibilities with a minimum of direction.
