Job Summary

Business Analyst Scope: 

Insurance Tools: Guidewire Insurance Suite (PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, Claims Center)

Planning and Execution Activities

    • Determine which techniques and artifacts should be used for each project based upon size, complexity and stakeholders
    • Identify all stakeholders
    • Help communicate and mitigate risks to ensure project success
    • Respond to changing organizational priorities
    • Work closely with project managers and assist with the project planning
    • Provide input from a business and IT perspective
    • Conduct data gathering and analysis to understand business strategy requirements
    • Contribute to the business short-and long-term planning sessions and provides direction to ensure understanding of business goals and direction
    • May generate appropriate communication, process and educational plans for mitigating the disruption of change
    • May identify and remove obstacles to change

Requirements Gathering

    • Ensure stakeholders are involved in requirements gathering activities
    • Obtain needed information from stakeholders to form requirements
    • Capture information provided in formal and informal meeting environment
    • Prepare requirements documentation in format understandable to the recipient audience
    • Ensure requirement traceability through all phases of a project / program
    • Strive to eliminate ambiguity in, or varying interpretations of requirements
    • Assess stakeholder needs utilizing a structured requirement process to assist in identifying business priorities and advises on options
    • Develop, write, and communicate business requirements and functional specifications for the implementation of business solutions 

Analysis, Management & Communication

    • Obtain, organize and categorize large amounts of information provided by stakeholders
    • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconciles conflicts, decomposes high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguishes user requests from the underlying true needs
    • Document the business requirements and functional specifications which express what actions the business must take in order to solve a business need and delivers work artifacts through the project lifecycle
    • Ensure that all requirements and designs support the delivery of value, fulfill goals and business outcomes
    • Offer input on priority of requirements based on time, cost, scope, strategic fit and return on investment
    • Obtain approvals for each artifact generated
    • Analyze and articulate impacts of changes to requirements
    • Appropriately respond to changing requirements
    • Identify opportunities for improvement and propose solutions to impacted areas
    • Take ownership of conflict and issue resolution
    • Coach and transfer knowledge to less experienced team members
    • Keep stakeholders informed of problems, issues, and resolutions
    • Vary communication method / style based on stakeholder or group
    • Understand organizational culture, structure and impact on work efforts
    • Understand enterprise architecture concepts and can assess business capability needs
    • Effectively identify, understand and communicate business impacts/outcomes across the organization functioning as a business architect/enterprise Business Analyst
    • Establish and maintain liaison relationship with business units and IT in order to provide effective technical solutions
    • Seek opportunities to improve and deepen relationship between IT and business units
    • Analyze performance metrics to ensure stakeholder satisfaction
    • Manage stakeholder expectations
    • Analyze stakeholder operations to understand their strengths and weaknesses to determine opportunities for improvements
    • Provide assistance in business case development (i.e., research, data collection)
    • Review test plans
    • Monitor testing process to ensure that business results are adequately tested with minimal risk
    • Ensure test strategies involve appropriate integration and process components 

Recommend Solutions

    • Provide a concise list of solution options including a recommended solution
    • Assess the organizational readiness for the new solution
    • Outline business capabilities and requirements to move from the current to future state
    • Verify and validate that proposed solutions meet business needs / outcomes
    • Assist in the business process redesign and documentation as needed for new technology
